East Elmhurst

With a rich history and a charming residential atmosphere, East Elmhurst is a neighborhood that offers affordability and convenience to those seeking a peaceful sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city. Despite the perplexing name (as it is actually located north of Elmhurst), this historic area was once known as Frogtown before being rebuilt by Steinway. It is also recognized as the "Coney Island of Queens" for being home to the East Coast's first Ferris Wheel. East Elmhurst has a strong sense of community and hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year. Its proximity to LaGuardia Airport makes it an ideal location for travelers seeking accommodation options close to the airport while still being close to the city's attractions.

For music lovers and history buffs, a visit to the Louis Armstrong House Museum is a must. The museum offers a glimpse into the life of jazz legend Louis Armstrong. In addition, several parks are available for visitors to enjoy, including Louis C. Moser Playground, Gorman Playground, LaGuardia Landing Lights Fields, Flushing Bay Promenade (now renamed to Malcolm X Promenade), Planeview Park, and East Elmhurst Playground. One Room Schoolhouse Park, named after the last one-room schoolhouse in Queens, was once the Astoria Boulevard and 90th Street schoolhouse, which operated from 1879 until 1934. It was later converted into a playground in 1935 and then a garden in 1992.
