Assembly Member Andrew Hevesi has unveiled an ambitious 7-day street-cleaning initiative designed to revolutionize sanitation and uplift communities in the 28th Assembly District. With $100,000 secured in New York State funding, this program is more than a cleaning effort—it’s a blueprint for enhancing the quality of life while fostering second chances.
A Game-Changer for Queens Neighborhoods
Launched this month, the program delivers daily cleaning services to bustling hubs like Austin Street, Yellowstone Boulevard, and Continental Avenue in Forest Hills. Other high-traffic areas, including Maspeth, Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village, Rego Park, and Kew Gardens, will receive resources as needed. This initiative addresses long-standing concerns over cleanliness and beautification, ensuring residents and visitors experience a more welcoming environment.
“This is about more than clean streets,” said Assembly Member Hevesi. “It’s about investing in the vibrancy of our communities while supporting individuals working hard to rebuild their lives. It’s a win for everyone.”
A Partnership with Purpose
The program partners with ACE Programs for the Homeless, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals facing challenges like homelessness, addiction, and incarceration. ACE’s involvement not only ensures spotless streets but also provides meaningful employment opportunities for those striving to reenter the workforce.
Beyond Cleanliness
Hevesi’s commitment to community improvement doesn’t stop here. The assembly member plans to continue his annual district-wide cleanup events, bringing volunteers together to support beautification projects.
Looking Ahead
Running through 2025, the program could expand based on community needs and available resources. Its dual focus—cleaner streets and personal empowerment—sets a precedent for holistic community improvement.
Why It Matters
This initiative isn’t just about sanitation; it’s about creating cleaner, safer, and more inclusive spaces for all. It’s a model of how strategic funding and compassionate partnerships can leave a lasting positive impact.
